Formed in 2003 and hailing from North Carolina's Triangle region, Slack Racket is a professional indy band with a working class attitude. Part blues and part straight-up good-time roots of rock and roll fun, Slack Racket is mostly an energetic UP-tempo band, but can also turn in a soulful Chicago club slow number when the mood strikes, and either way, dancing is encouraged at a Slack Racket show.
Having originally begun as a party pick-up band of friends, all of whom have spent over half their lives as musicians, Slack Racket maintains a solid set of classic rock and blues cover songs, which rotate in and out of their shows, depending on the venue and audience.
In 2006 the band decided to take the next step and began focusing on their own original material, which was already a staple of their live shows. Lacking a label, they recorded in their own studio, and in the summer of 2007 released their debut CD, the self-titled "Slack Racket." The CD cover--a 1948 Belmont Deco tube radio--announces a classic style, and holds 11 original songs, from straight blues to southern stomp. It's available for digital download on iTunes, Amazon MP3, and emusic.com, as well as in CD form from the band's web site and at live shows.
With their first release finally available, Slack Racket began to play out more often, hitting bars and taverns across North Carolina, as well as private music festivals and outdoor venues, most recently Dancing Fox Music Park. In the last year, Slack Racket has shared the stage with numerous other bands, including The Fairlanes, The Willie Painter Band, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Purple Schoolbus, The Tommy G Experience, The Usta B's, and Big Mama E & the Cool, to name just a few.
Currently, Slack Racket are preparing material and demos for their follow-up CD, with recording set to begin late summer for an early 2010 release, and the band has roughly 75 minutes of purely original songs for their current live shows. Slack Racket also regularly play much longer shows clocking in at 2.5 hours when adding covers to their set list.
